The Secretariat is staffed by the Chair of the Commission in consultation with the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG-FOPH), with which it is administratively affiliated.

The Secretariat is also responsible for

• technical and administrative support of the Commission
  and its working groups,
• implementation, pre- and post-processing of the Commission's
  decisions, and 
• early identification of new issues.
  
  

The Secretariat acts as an information source for the public and publicises the Commission's views. It provides a means of communication between the public, institutions and the media at local, national and international levels and serves as an interface between regulatory authorities and administration and the FOPH in particular.
